Legends of the Spring

Well folks, our winter hiatus is over. Sorry for the long break, the BL staff was making a long, arduous pilgrimage to the manger where Gisele gave birth to the Chosen One last December. Our gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh were well-received by the gracious Brady family, and we'd like to thank them for their wonderful hospitality throughout our stay.

A full discussion on the NFL playoffs (featuring two miserable teams in the AFC Championship game and a memorable Peyton Super Bowl choke) might or might not be forthcoming, depending on whether or not we keep getting sick to our stomachs thinking about the Last Night of the Patriot Dynasty, aka Super Bowl XLII.

Now, all eyes turn to Ft. Myers, where the Sox are gearing up for another season with a title on their minds. Pitchers, catchers, and legendary workaholic early-arrival position players (see Youkilis, Kevin) are at City of Palms Park to take part in the purest aspect of the game, when young players envision legendary breakout seasons in The Show, and veterans savor the ever-present Spring dream of October glory. Everyone's a contender in March, and the fraternity of ballplayers is at its most welcoming as they giddily prepare to do what they love for the next seven months.

Sox fans have talked themselves into this - by Red Sox standards - light-hitting team, whose appeal to the Baseball Gods with this old-school "pitching and defense" approach is somewhat negated by their treatment of the legendary Mike Lowell and Tim Wakefield, both of whom are twisting in the wind, unsure what their role will be on this intriguing Boston squad. So oil up your glove, throw in a double horseshoe, take some long toss, and play a little pepper; baseball is back, and so is Boston Legends.
